Sports Update February to May 2024

Congratulations to all teams and coaches for their hard work and achievements!

CIS Cup Competition
The CIS Cup is an annual knockout football competition for the open age group. Our boys and girls teams competed fiercely against Arden College. The boys drew 0-0 but were narrowly defeated in penalties, while the girls put up a strong fight but lost 4-2.

Football NSW Regional Championships
Our Under 16s and Under 14s futsal teams showcased their skills at the regional championships at Marrickville PCYC.

  • Under 16 Boys: Played brilliantly, only defeated by Moriah College in the final
  • Under 16 Girls: Showed tremendous heart but went down in the quarter-finals.
  • Under 14 Boys: Reached the final but also lost to Moriah College.
  • Under 14 Girls: Competed valiantly, reaching the quarter-finals.

Swim Squads
Swim squads resumed for Primary students in Term 1, with additional training sessions every Wednesday afternoon at Roselands Aquatic Centre. These will recommence in Term 4.

ASG Swimming Carnival
Held at Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre, with Attica emerging victorious in both Secondary and Primary divisions.

IPSHA Swimming
Our top Primary swimmers competed at the IPSHA championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

SWISSA Swimming
All Saints Grammar hosted the SWISSA championships at Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre. This provided Secondary students an opportunity to qualify for the AICES team. All Saints Grammar finished second overall across eight SWISSA schools.

Orthodox Swimming Carnival
Our swim team participated in the Greek Orthodox Swimming Championships at Birrong Pool, hosted by St Euphemia College. For the first time, Secondary students were included, and All Saints Grammar finished in second place.

AICES Swimming
Successful SWISSA participants advanced to the AICES competition, aiming to qualify for the CIS team.

SWISSA Cup
SWISSA hosted CIS trials for combined Under 16 and Open boys and girls football teams.

  • Boys: Triumphed in their tournament at Jenson Park.
  • Girls: Fought hard but were defeated in penalties in the final at Valentine Park.

Cross Country
ASG hosted a cross-country event at Clemton Park for primary, under 15s, and open categories. Over 40 students participated, making it a successful and energetic morning.

CIS Golf Championships
Irene and Stella represented ASG at the CIS Golf Championships in Port Stephens. Both girls teed off at 7.00 AM and performed admirably against some of NSW’s best young golfers. Special congratulations to Irene for making the CIS team once again in her final year, a feat she has accomplished each year since Year 3.

Athletics Carnival
Our Secondary Athletics carnival took place at The Crest in Bankstown, where Ionia claimed victory. A special mention to William for breaking the school high jump record with a jump of 1.77m.

SWISSA Secondary Sport
Our junior basketball team won their SWISSA competition this term! Congratulations to the open girls and boys teams for reaching the grand final. We are also proud of the junior girls and open boys cricket teams for their impressive progress.

IPSSO Primary Sport
Primary students participated in the IPSSO summer sports season, including basketball, softball, tee ball, boys cricket, girls football, and Oz Tag. The season will resume in Term 4, with winter sports kicking off in Term 2 and continuing through Term 3. Winter sports include girls netball, boys football, AFL, softball/tee ball, and volleyball/Newcombe ball.

Football NSW Campbelltown Region Futsal Championships
Our Under 14 boys and girls teams competed valiantly:

  • Girls: Reached the finals but lost 5-2 to John Edmondson High School.
  • Boys: Won a thrilling contest against St Narsai College, 5-4. Congratulations to the coaches, Mr Arnold and Miss Atsalis, and to the victorious boys’ coach, Mr Michael Panzarino from FBA Football Academy.

Primary Futsal Teams
Our Primary girls and boys futsal teams competed in a regional competition. The girls made it to the semi-finals, while the boys clinched first place in the final! Both teams played their hardest and made ASG proud. Well done!

AICES Football Representatives
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding students who have been selected as representatives for the Association of Independent Co-Educational Schools (AICES) football team. This prestigious selection is a testament to your dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent on the football field.

Greek Orthodox National Schools Event 2024 
In May, the ASG community came together for an unforgettable experience at the 2024 GOAANSE. This event wasn’t just about competition; it was a celebration of our Greek Orthodox Faith, our rich heritage, and our vibrant culture.

Throughout the games, our athletes and performing artists showcased remarkable teamwork and dedication. Their efforts were nothing short of inspiring. We’re especially proud of our Boys Football team for their outstanding victory – a true testament to their hard work and perseverance. To all the athletes, coaches, volunteers, organisers, and supporters who played a part in making this event a success – thank you. Results are as follows; 

Day 1:

  • Boys Football: 1st PLACE
  • Boys Volleyball: Equal 3rd PLACE
  • Girls Volleyball: Equal 4th PLACE

Day 2:

  • Girls Netball: 3rd PLACE
  • Girls Futsal: 4th PLACE
  • Boys Futsal: 3rd PLACE

Day 3:

  • Girls Basketball: 5th PLACE
  • Boys Basketball: 5th PLACE
  • Girls Table Tennis: 4th PLACE
  • Boys Table Tennis: 5th PLACE
